Kitchen Design Trends
Let’s be honest … we live our lives in the kitchen. We cook, eat, entertain and even work in our kitchen area. Because of this high demand area, Glenn Layton Homes has found that an open design to other areas such as living and dining rooms is essential when we design a coastal style custom home for our clients. The following kitchen design trends are offered by our partners at First Coast Supply, who specialize in cabinetry, countertops and appliances.
Kitchen layouts that are getting the most attention have no barriers from the living space to the kitchen. The cabinet and countertop peninsulas, and high bars have become large gathering islands with lots of storage and casual seating.
CABINETS
Cabinetry with a white painted finish is in high demand. Softer whites, taupe’s and grey tone paint colors are being requested more and more. The most requested door styles have flat recessed center panel with simple details. A shaker door is very popular. Even for those who want a more formal look of a highly detailed door rail, the recessed center panel is more popular. Moldings and millwork details are also simple and casual.
A second cabinet color on the islands are helping to connect the kitchen with the living space furnishings. Darker stain colors in grey tones and chocolates are very popular. Taller upper cabinetry is also very popular. The most requested is to add a second row of uppers often going to the ceiling.
Other popular features being requested include large but simple cabinet match hoods (usually with a professional look range or range top). Deeper than standard upper cabinets, lots of glass doors, soft close on every door and drawer, lots of large drawers and roll outs, apron front sinks, and wine refrigerators.
COUNTERTOPS
Granite countertops are still the most requested. However, manmade quartz products continue to grow in popularity. White and grey tone marbles are getting a lot of attention but durability is concerning to the home buyer. The natural quartzite materials and the manmade quartz are giving buyers a similar look with a durability of granite.
APPLIANCES
High-end professional appliances still in high demand , and appliance makers are bringing more of that “professional look” to mid-level price range by offering “that look” but less performance. Stainless appliances still very popular , white is starting to make a very slow comeback.
French door / bottom freezer refrigerators are also becoming popular and are being offered in many more options than a couple of years ago. These are appealing to customers that like to entertain since it allows them to use of much wider platters.
