St Patrick’s Day in St Augustine

St. Augustine, known for its rich history and charming atmosphere, is gearing up for an unforgettable St. Patrick’s Day celebration. St. Augustine is known as the oldest city in the US, but it’s also the first city in the country in recorded history to host a St. Patrick celebration. In 1600, in part as a way to honor a popular local Irish Catholic priest, troops shot cannons and guns in an impromptu celebration on the religious holiday. To top it off, the first St. Patrick’s Day Parade in recorded history in the world took place in 1601. As it stands, this is the only St. Patrick’s Parade in Northeast Florida.

The parade this year is taking place at 10 am on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Francis Field.

In its 425th edition, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade runs through the historic downtown area, before returning to Francis Field. During the weekend, the Celtic Music & Cultural Heritage Festival is also taking place at Francis Field, offering even more fun and festivities. In fact, the Parade is the official start to the festival and is always held on the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day.

The parade is a grand showing of floats, marching bands, horse-drawn carriages, local community groups, and of course plenty of pipes and drums to get your blood stirring. The following festival celebrates Celtic music, culture, and heritage, and includes live music Highland Games, a Celtic Marketplace, food and drinks, and more.

Of course, there’s no shortage of fun to be had on St. Patrick’s Day itself. The city is home to a variety of Irish pubs, such as Ann O’Malley’s, Donovan’s, Meehan’s, Shaughnessy’s, and Barley Republic, where you’re sure to find music, drinks, and plenty of corned beef and cabbage to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Even many local restaurants like Oasis Deck and Restaurant get in on the Irish fun.
